COVID-19 MEASURES

The current lockdown measures mean that our heritage railway was closed for 2020 but things are looking up!

We very much look forward to welcoming our many Visitors, Members and Supporters, once we are able to do so. In readiness for welcoming back our visitors we have been busy developing safety measures for all - meanwhile, do take care and stay safe!

Everyone you meet at the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway is a Volunteer - nobody receives a salary, we do it because we enjoy it - plus our aim is to help to educate future generations, and for them to experience and enjoy our heritage.

We have worked incredibly hard to ensure your future journey is COVID-19 safe - whilst also keeping your visit enjoyable! But it does mean that we will have to necessarily limit the number of people we welcome onto our services when they re-start. Please do follow all Government rules and advice on travelling by public transport, and when you visit us we also ask you to take note of the following to get the most from your visit.

Before you travel:

You must pre-book your tickets and refreshments online before travelling. Whilst restrictions remain in place, we are sorry but we cannot welcome casual visitors (including members).

Let us know if you have any special mobility or other needs. Unfortunately, our ability to take wheelchairs is limited to one per trip.

Please arrive between 15-30 minutes prior to your train departure time and bring proof of your booking either in paper or electronic form.

To keep everyone safe during your visit, please:

  • Keep 2 metres from others where possible.
  • Follow one-way systems and instructions given by our staff.
  • Wash hands and use the hand-gel.
  • Wear a face covering whilst onboard (except when eating and drinking).
  • Remain in your allocated seats wherever possible.
  • Allow our staff to open and close carriage doors.
  • Leave windows open.

We are taking the follows measures to keep everyone safe:

  • Limiting the number of people on site.
  • Allocating distanced, on-train seats.
  • Cleaning carriages after each trip.
  • Cleaning external door handles.
  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning of toilets and other facilities.
  • Implementing one-way systems.
  • Ensuring staff are well and obey regular hand washing.

During your visit:

  • Additional staff will be on hand to help guide visitors through the site
  • On arrival customers you will be greeted at the gate and briefed on our simple rules
  • Once it is safe to do so visitors will be invited to enter the platform area and then board the train.
  • Any pre-booked refreshments will be delivered to your seat.
  • At Cholsey, you may leave the train, but you must return on the same service.
--- We do hope you enjoy you trip and look forward to welcoming you again soon ---
